The day after Emma got her 12 month shots she broke out in this horrible rash. It was all over her body, and especially bad on her face. It was so sad to see. I knew that a rash was possible after the shots that she had gotten, but supposedly the rash wasn't supposed to come for a week after. I called the nurses the next morning to see if there was something I should be doing for it and the nurse FREAKED out on the phone and insisted that it could NOT be a reaction to the vaccine and that I needed to bring Emma in. That got me worried, so we headed in. We couldn't see Dr B because she was out of town but we saw one of the other doctors that we had met before. He apologized that the nurse had insisted that we come in and said it seemed just like a reaction to the vaccine. He suggested an oatmeal bath to help ease the itchiness, and to use an oatmeal lotion (like Aveeno) to help soothe Emma's skin. After about a week or so her skin cleared up.
Lesson learned: trust your instincts, not the freaky phone nurse.

I keep logging on to my blog to see new posts from you! Love it!
I have never called my doctor's office with the intent to consult with a nurse where I wasn't advised to "come in and meet with the doctor." This with my PCP, my OB and now Esmée's Pediatrician's office. I commented to Joe about this the other day and we both wonder why there's even a nurse consultation service at these places when the nurses clearly pawn off the diagnosis/treatment advise to the doctor's anyway... I have to believe my experience is not unique, but all the same, that there really are some nurse consultants who can and do offer good advice without the need to advise the patient to book an appointment with the Dr. instead.
Poor Emma. I'm glad her skin is clearing up! Esmée has a mediocre case of baby acne on her face and neck right now and we've been using the Aveno Colloidal Oatmeal lotion and Colloidal Oatmeal bath soak. Those do seem to work pretty well.
Poor girl! That must make you very nervous for the next round.
Oh man! Poor baby! That looks so painful. So glad to hear she is better now.

When Rylee had the same thing happen after her MMR, I felt like she was a leper! It totally looks like measles, and I was just sure that other people would think that their kids were going to contract something deadly if they even looked at Rylee!
Ainsley did the exact same thing after she got her twelve month shots, one day later too. It looked like she got measles or something. That was the only reaction she ever had though and none of the kids had a reaction. Hopefully, it was just a fluke. Poor baby. :(
