Because everyone keeps asking...

I didn't realize that everybody was going to read that post and not know what my new major is. Sorry to everyone who was left in the dark. My new major *drum roll please...* is Home & Family Living, emphasising in Family Finance. There is a story behind it that involves Sister Beck's CES Fireside from the beginning of March. If you really want to hear the story, email me and I'll fill you in on the whole story, including the 2 majors I had in the middle.

Also... my siblings that know Tyler... he sent in his papers yesterday and now we begin guessing where the boy is going. I need to create my guess, so if you have any good suggestions, let me know! I need a good guess for this one.

American Heritage Service Project

For American Heritage you have to do 10 hours of community service. I chose to volunteer at this place called Friday's Kids Respite. It's a place that families with special needs kids can drop their special need kid off on Friday's (and Thursday's I heard) for a few hours so they can go out, or spent time focusing on their other kids. I went last week and spent 4 hours there playing with the cutest little girl. Tonight I went and spent 3 hours with this hilarious boy that kept telling me that he hated me, but that he wanted to play with me anyway. We were pirates, digging in a sand box for buried treasure (an easter egg from some easter egg hunt from earlier in the week). We probably played in the sand box for 1 1/2 hours, which was hilarious. However, I will admit that this service project has made me realize how glad I am that I changed my major. Although I wouldn't have been teaching elementary special ed, it still would have been really really difficult.

Mission Calls!

Today... Brendan C & Nickolai from 204 got their mission calls. Nickolai's parents came up from Payson with his call at 4:50, and Nickolai got home at 5. We all congregated in the kitchen to learn that he's going to the New Jersey Cherry Hill Mission, English speaking. He enters the MTC on June 4th. My guess of Finland was a BIT off...

We all gathered again at 6 in the lobby for Brendan's call, he had to wait for his mom to get off an airplane. He was called to serve in the Texas Houston South Mission, Vietnamese speaking. He enters the MTC June 25th. I was kinda close with Brendan... I guessed Washington Everett, Cambodian Speaking.

This is super exciting, I'm pretty sure that Nickolai was the first person I've ever watched open a mission call. And apparently in the next few weeks the first of my FHE bros will get their call. I'm excited for that day too!

It's so crazy to think that Brendan and Nickolai have their calls. They'll be awesome missionaries, I can't wait to hear about their experiences.

Rex Lee Run

I got a haircut yesterday... but this isn't the best picture to tell from. This is after running my 5K. I'll put another picture up sometime when I've actually done my hair.

Today was the annual Rex Lee Run. Kelli, Christie, Sarah and I were all training for it for the last little while. When we woke up this morning though, Kelli was really sick and had all the symptoms of a viral infection... so Kelli went to the doctor while we ran the race. It was sad not having her there with us, I know that she was sad about missing it, and Sarah was sad about not having her running buddy.

We ran the 5K and were really excited when we crossed the finish line and found our time to be around 36 minutes. Christie and I had only ever gone 1.6 miles and it had taken around 25 minutes... so we were way pleased with our time.

One of the best parts of the run was the end... after we crossed the finish line and were waiting in the huge crowds of other finishers to have them take our timers off of us. We saw a bunch of parents pushing their kids in strollers, or older kids running alongside their parents. But... the best was a man that we saw pushing an older kid in a jogging stroller type thing. This kid looked about 10 years old, and was fighting cancer. Christie and I saw it, and almost cried... we had been complaining about running up a little hill, or wanting water, but then we realized how much we had to be grateful for.

Overall... it was a really neat experience and we decided that we'll be doing it again next year and every year that we're at BYU. Next year I won't be so cheap and I'll give an extra donation so I can get a certificate honoring Brother Halverson. It's hard to believe that it's almost been a year since that day in Seminary, or the funeral.

General Conference

The BYU Choirs are singing at the Saturday Afternoon session of General Conference this year. Christie & I wanted to go to a session of conference before we found this out. THEN, we found out that Sarah & Nickolai both actually get to sing at it (amazing since they're both freshman). Tonight... Christie listened to a message from her dad saying that he had gotten us two tickets to the SATURDAY AFTERNOON SESSION! Soo... now Christie and I are freaking out because we get to go to the session of General Conference that our roommate and Nickolai (from 204) will be singing at!

SO EXCITING!

Don't Worry

After I called maintenance yesterday and then headed off to my classes, they came to fix the problem. Apparently nobody in my building had thought of calling maintenance to get the water and heat problem fixed. When I came home there was actually warm water again, even hot water. It was glorious to take a warm shower. :D

I'm in a line waiting to go in and talk to the guy in charge of RAs... waiting for my 5 minute meeting where we discuss the exciting job that is RA. I think I'm quite fond of the computer lab at the central building, it is a brilliant idea.

Anywho... the heat is fixed which meant that I actually slept last night. It was glorious. None of that laying in my bed for 3 hours wishing it wasn't so hot so I could get to sleep.

The Weather

It's finally getting pretty here. Finally, like right in time for me and the roommies to run in the Rex Lee Run for cancer. Hopefully Saturday morning is as prettyful as today was. I'm really liking the sun, something I haven't seen in many months, many many months. It just doesn't get very sunny here during the winter, crazy, right?

Today, Christie and I went running (we're actually training now for the run that's only a few days away). When we got back we were all hot and sweaty... but then we open the front door. It's no joke, 80 degrees in our apartment. I'm not sure if someone got a little cold and turned the heat up, or if for once our heat just randomly turned on. Even with the windows open in our room it's not getting any cooler. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to sleep with it being 80 degrees.

On another really cool and random note... I rearranged my room kind of. We watched a movie on Christie's bed tonight and pulled my dresser over to put the computer on while we watched. When we went to put it back we flipped the dresser around so that I've got this cool little hiding spot between my dresser and my bed. I might put a picture up if I actually take one...

Memories of Freshman Year

We had Stake Conference today. A bishop spoke about how our wards become our family while we're at BYU, and listed a bunch of activities from his ward, that helped them to bond, or that were just funny memories. I'm writing this post with the intention of printing it and putting it in my journal so i don't have to write like 10 pages about all these memories.
