When we first moved here I was interested in reading The Hunger Games series now that I actually had some time to read for fun. I signed up for a library card and placed holds on all three books. I finally have books 1 & 2 and am something like 38 out of 145 for the third one. I was tempted to just get the audio book since our library has downloadable audiobooks and that series was included in that collection... but then... when I looked at them I realized that each book was about 11 hours or longer. Last night in 2 hours I read half of one book. Why on earth would I spend 11 hours listening to one book when I could read all three books in about the same time?
And that is all.

Great question.
I've never done an audiobook outside of the Scriptures on CD which I have in my car to listen to as I drive. I know a lot of people love them, but listening to someone read me a book always seemed too strange an idea to me.
The time it takes to read a book aside (I'm a slow reader but have a pretty photographic memory to recall what I've read once I've read it) - reading books as books is so much more gratifying. I much prefer the feel of paper, smell of the book, my own voice inside my head :), etc.
I've only listened to 1 audiobook, but it was SO fun! I was able to quilt at night and listen to Ender's Game while at the same time. I will say that it is NOT the same. There's something about reading what is on the page and imagining it versus just trying to pick out a story you hear. I feel like someday I'd like to go back and read it to see what I missed.
Chris and I listened to Harry Potter on our drive to Seattle and then from Seattle to San Antonio, but we both had read all the books and seen all the movies so it wasn't anything new. We did catch a few things that neither one of us had noticed before, but it was nice to already to know the story.
Tammy Risenmay listens to books on tape or CD all the time as she does her housework--but I am a "Show me the words" kind of girl. The only time I vary from that is for a car trip. We did truly enjoy Fablehaven, several different volumes (Aunt Kathy has them) because the reader is FABULOUS and does voices for each character that are really amazing.
