Apparently it is a line from Thomas the Tank Engine. It came up because she called to ask me a question and I was able to answer her question very well. Therefore: I am a very useful engine.
I love that phrase! Yes, in the Thomas series, it is very important to be a "very useful engine." Sir Topham Hat has that as the top goal for his engines. If they dawdle or get mischievous, he reminds them to be useful -- deliver the freight, or transport the passengers -- just do something good.
Marce, I'm glad you are a very useful engine!
Too many years of little boys around here, I guess. Thanks, PBS!

Could I have a clue or two as to the context of your being a "very useful engine?" I'm not quite getting the gist here!

Thank you! I get it now!
Is that kind of similar to "the little engine that could?"
If so - I agree with Valerie - you're capable of doing anything you put your mind to!

Count on Traci to catch my brainwave!
I had called Marci to ask her a wardrobe question. She was very helpful, and before I knew it, I had pronounced her a "very useful engine". ;)
It's been years since Seth was into Thomas the Tank Engine, but there are phrases like that that just stick.
