On Sunday our lesson in Primary was about how Heavenly Father will help us when we are being obedient. A huge part of the lesson was the story of Nephi being commanded to build a boat. As such, we had each of the kids draw a picture of what they thought the boat may have looked like. Afterwards, one of the girls asked if I would take her picture home and put it on our fridge and I said yes. Then all 4 other kids offered their pictures for our fridge as well. They almost all had drawn other things on the back of their pictures and some specified which side was supposed to show.
Here we have our fridge with all the pictures + a wedding announcement and mom's graduation announcement and a photo from a Christmas card. I don't know who they are...
The kid who drew this picture made sure I knew that in the left corner was the sun and he pointed out the fish. He also wanted me to make sure I knew that some of the blue was water and part of the blue was the sky. He was a little concerned that I wouldn't be able to tell which was which, but I definitely could tell a difference.
This kid doesn't like drawing things that he has never drawn before (for fear of not being good at it) so he didn't want to draw a boat. Instead he drew Nephi. I told him that if he wasn't going to draw a boat then he had to use words and tell me what he was drawing. I cut his down to put it up on the fridge because it would fit better that way.
This picture kind of reminds me of the Fisher Price Noah's Ark. I'm guessing her family has one, but also it was just pretty awesome. I love the clouds in the sky!
It was almost like pulling teeth to get this kid to cooperate so I was pretty pleased with how his turned out.
This is the backside of the above boat. He really wanted to draw a Corvette instead, but waited until after he drew his boat knowing that he'd get in trouble for not being obedient, that meaning that he wouldn't get cookies with the rest of the class next week. I like the detail in his picture, he did a good job.
The kid who started the whole giving us their picture thing wanted me to post the picture of her face on my fridge not her picture of the boat, so I didn't show a picture of her boat here. I liked her picture of her face too, she's a fun kid.
After church we found out that we won't be teaching this class anymore (I have to be in Relief Society now because I'm the only person that plays the piano besides the actual pianist and she doesn't always make it there) which is really disappointing. We've LOVED teaching this class, even though it started off a bit rocky. I feel bad for the kids, they're likely going to get another sub for a few mores weeks until a real teacher can be called to teach them which means they'll struggle getting used to someone else right after they've finally gotten used to how we work and learning that there really are consequences to their actions. There is nothing like watching the rest of your class eat a cookie because they were being good and following the rules.

I love that idea! Matt's having some issues with his class. I'll have to suggest the cookie thing.
Cookies definitely work. I developed a system where when I got to class I had their names written on the chalkboard and anytime they acted up they got a point. For one kid it meant every time he said anything without raising his hand he got a point, he was pretty bad. You can get your points erased if you are really good and follow the rules. The goal was to have 0 points. I told them that after 4 weeks we would see who had 0 points and only people with 0 points get the treat.
I love the wedding announcement, and you are using the CUTEST magnets ever. Darling pictures. I think your ward is missing a bet in not having you in Primary! But playing the piano in RS is a good thing too, in addition to your REAL calling. Love you!
Sounds like things are pretty small in your ward! The smaller the ward the higher the demand for callings. The ward I'm in is very transitory and so we're faced with a similar problem. It will be interesting to see what they call Joe and me to do.
I can't help but think "That Marci will make a great Mom some day." :)
