This week we had cleaning checks. Not your normal cleaning checks though, deep cleaning cleaning checks. The cleaning checks where you get to take everything out of the fridge, freezer, cabinets, etc to wipe down every surface of your apartment. You get to do things like... dust the chairs in your bedroom, wipe down the shower curtain rod, and the metal supports of the shelves on the wall. Doing the cleaning isn't toooo bad, but checking the cleaning in 7 apartments and watching your supervisor check them in the 3 remaining apartment gets really old. Basically... I spent 5 hours doing cleaning checks and probably 2 hours doing my own cleaning for my cleaning check. Oh, and then probably 2 hours of redos. I really like cleaning check week ;) Or I'm really glad for it to be over.
Mission calls... the one boy RA in my associate tri-hall is going on a mission after this semester. He's been waiting for a few days for his call to get here (he figures it should've come last Wednesday, but it took a little extra time). On Friday I was sitting in biology when my associate hall advisor called. I was kind of nervous, I had worked the night before and was afraid that maybe I had done something wrong, or completely forgotten to do something. After class I checked my voicemail. I wasn't in trouble at all, Mike's mission call had come and she was inviting all of our team to come over at 4:30 when he would be opening it. The four girls that were in town (everyone but Mindy) were there, along with half of his ward basically. Melanie (an RA) totally called where he was going... Spain Madrid. We're so excited for Mike to be going on his mission. But. We're also not happy about it. He goes into the MTC on April 1st. So he'll be leaving us after Christmas, but not going into the MTC til 3 weeks before our job ends. We're kind of really really sad that he has to leave us and that we have to train a new RA and get used to a new RA. For some reason we're afraid that his replacement won't be as cool as he is, and that the new guy won't be as willing to help us with everything like Mike is. Basically: we love Mike and want him to stay with us forever.
This week in RA class we learned a little bit about Emergency Prepardness and what our roles would be as RAs if there were to be an emergency. It was probably the most depressing lesson we've ever had in class. I just hope there is no natural disaster or other emergency that makes it so I have to go through my building and find my girls injured. We talked about how our goal then is to find help as many people as we can so we can't spend much time helping each person we find, so if we come across some requiring a lot of attention (not breathing, etc) we have to write 'dead' on their forehead. Ya. The room got really sad when our teacher was teaching us how to mark different types of injuries. Next week in class we continue our lesson on Emergencies.

Cleaning checks are bad enough when you have to do the cleaning, but I can't even imagine how fun they are for the CHECKER, who then has to re-check when things are not done up to snuff. How happy for you that the Mid-Semester cleaning checks are now history. Congrats to Mike on his call.
