This weekend we took the plunge and bought... bowling shoes. They are awesome. I wish I had a picture of us in our bowling shoes, but the lighting at the bowling alley was awful, so we didn't take any. Oh yeah, and then Saturday night as part of our date we went bowling. I am a pitiful bowler. I need to do some research, read about techniques, maybe watch some pro-bowling (I think it is fascinating to watch!), and bowl regularly to get any good.
We're pretty excited and plan to go bowling about 2-3 times a month and hope that by the end of the year we'll be a whole lot better than we are now. Just for the record, this weekend my score was in the 40s (I had two pathetic frames in a row where I got gutterballs, followed by a strike, and then more awful shots). Chris barely broke 100. I've got a long way to go. The great thing is that we both got one strike, so that's pretty exciting. Hooray for bowling.
And yes, we know we're super dorky for owning our own bowling shoes, but we like it.

Or, super smart for owning your own bowling shoes. ;) I don't like the rented ones either.
Joe took a lot of engineering classes at BYU but one of his *relaxation* classes was bowling. He has a few of those little trophies from some competitions he was in. So, it's fun to go with him but I'm like you - I haven't entertained that date much since I don't like wearing the shoes.
Good luck with your goals to improve your shot! Let me know your tricks once you figure them out (most mine roll to the gutters).
Get a wii and practice on it. :)
I want to see your shoes! :-D
My first time bowling, I bowled a 148. Then it progressively got worse. One friend got a 9. So awesome that you're going to go often together.
We do have a wii, and we do bowl on it... But on wii bowling it is so much easier to keep your arm straight. Much fewer gutter balls that way, that's for sure!
Ha ha! I've only actually been bowling twice in my lifetime but I'm awesome at Wii bowling. ;)
I joined a bowling league about 20 years ago. I got my own shoes and a pink ball! After that season, they have mostly sat in a bag on a shelf in my bedroom. Hope you have lots of fun learning to bowl!

HA HA I love it!! I may want to become a better bowler now. J.D. wants to come with me when a certin person arrives so if that's the first time we make it out there we might just have to go bowling!
p.s. Grandma bowling always gets me some awesome scores :D
I am afraid that if I ever pick up a bowling ball again, I will remove myself from the pedestal as Family Champion. I did such a fabulous job that day we bowled together!
