Once upon a time I wrote a post (I don't want to go find it) where I questioned why people listen to audiobooks... especially the ones that take forever to listen to but you could read in one sitting and have it take less than half the time. I now understand.
I love books; like, I'm kind of obsessed with them. If I could I would just sit and read all day long. That wouldn't be a good thing though. On days like today if I read that would mean that all of the dishes from yesterday (we had tacos, and made soft pretzels, and brownie bites... lots of dirty dishes) wouldn't get done; the kitchen floor would be a mess; and my laundry wouldn't get done and I wouldn't have socks to wear tomorrow. I realized a while back that Mondays are the perfect day for me to listen to an audiobook. I can turn one on on my computer, hook it up to our surround sound, and make the volume loud enough that I can actually hear it over the washer, dryer and running water as I do the dishes. I can listen to books while I get other stuff done. Today if I'm lucky I will have a whole book done and Chris wouldn't ever be able to tell--our house will look great.
I'm so glad that my library has a huge selection of audiobooks. While I still prefer holding a book in my hand and turning the pages myself, it is nice to have a book to listen to while I do things around the house. By February 12th I will finish the Independent Study class that I am working on, and then I'm going to just sit for a few days and read my little heart out. I'm excited.

Dear Marci. I miss you. But I'm glad you share your thoughts on your blog. I'm glad that you have enjoyed the beauty of audiobooks. I have not yet found a love for them. But probably because if I tried to listen to them, my boys would throw a fit. :)
I've never done audiobooks other than the scriptures. Maybe I should try it. There's certainly plenty of cleaning to be done around here!
