Going home for the summer is kind of a hassle. There's a lot to do, and not lots of time to do it.
Involved in moving for college students (specifically ones moving out of the dorms, as that is the only experience I have) there is:
-buy packing tape
-sort through things
1. Take home 2. mail home 3. put it in a box 4. give away 5. throw away
-call your distant relative that lives nearby and see if you can store your stuff at their house for the summer
-call another random relative (most likely one you're only related to because their relative married your relative) to see if you can crash at their house for the night when you get kicked out of the dorms but you don't fly out til the next day, and then if they can take you to the airport
-if either of those calls don't work, finding backup storage plans, or crashing at their house plans
-forward your mail
-change your magazine subscription address so it will actually get to you in a decent amount of time
-pack up all of your belongings, and often belongings that aren't really yours but nobody claims and you think "hey, maybe I did bring 2 wooden spoons to school".
-clean your room and the jobs given to you on your "What Do I Do Form" which your RA gave to you at your Check out meeting
And then the whole finding time to do this among your homework, classes, work, finals, and helping with checkouts. I'm glad I made this list now so I can see what all needs to be done so I can fit that into my spare time. I've really got to get my last two exams done (one ends tomorrow, the other starts tomorrow) and then my last 2 quizzes done. I should also finish my paper (P&J expect an email) and see if I can redo my RA final since it didn't get saved.
All I can say is that it's a good thing I've got 2 of those things done already. Too bad they're the easy ones (changing address on magazines and forwarding mail). Next step: buy tape, put up a box, and start chucking things in it as I sort through my stuff. Then: packing. Well, really I guess the next step is to make the two phone calls so I have a place to store my things and a place to sleep the night I move out.

MOving ANY TIME is a hassle! You just get to do it more frequently in this college stage than in other times in your life. Packing tape--I have a bunch, but then, if I had given it to you, you'd have had to find room for it in your luggage. Good luck with everything!
I know you found the place to crash and the ride to the airport--did you find a place to store stuff? Do I need to make a phone call for you?
I got it taken care of. I called Grandma Jean, left her a message. NExt day she called and left me a message. We're good now, I just have to figure out when I'll have my stuff packed and ready. Thanks for having awesome family members around here :)
Jeanne--you ROCK! It's like having had such an amazing extended family added to the mix. We LOVE your family, every single one of them. And the married ones too!
